  7. ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus lets you enable or disable your Windows
  8. screen saver with a single mouse-click to a small button on
  9. your desktop.  It also lets you start your screen saver
  10. immediately, and to set the screen saver delay in one second
  11. (rather than one minute) increments.  Finally, it provides
  12. methods for you to restart your Windows session, to safely
  13. close Windows and reboot your machine, or to exit to DOS
  14. without the pesky "This will end your Windows session"
  15. OK/Cancel query.

  17. How To Use The Switch:

  19.      Run the program using Windows' Program Manager or File
  20.   Manager.  The small ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus Button will appear
  21.   in the lower right corner of your screen.
  22.      A green dot means that the Windows screen saver is
  23.   enabled and will start after a period of inactivity.  A
  24.   red dot means that the screen saver is disabled and will
  25.   not start.
  26.      Click the ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus Button with the left mouse-
  27.   button to switch between enabled and disabled modes.

  29. Activating The Menu:

  31.      Activate the menu by clicking the ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus
  32.   Button with the right mouse-button.  The menu contains
  33.   the following options:

  35.      Run screen saver:   Starts the screen saver
  36.           immediately.
  37.      Screen saver settings:   Allows you to enable or
  38.           disable the screen saver, set its delay in seconds
  39.           (Windows' Control Panel only allows 1 minute
  40.           increments), and to make these settings permanent
  41.           (by saving them to WIN.INI).
  42.      Button position:   Allows you to place the
  43.           ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus Button in one of six screen
  44.           positions (one of the four corners, top center or
  45.           bottom center).  Also offers "Arrow move" to allow
  46.           you to position the Button anywhere:  click "Arrow
  47.           move" (the cursor becomes a four-way arrow), press
  48.           an arrow key, then reposition the Button using the
  49.           mouse and/or the arrow keys.  Press Enter or click
  50.           the left mouse-button to establish the Button's
  51.           position (works the same as a regular window's
  52.           Move command).
  53.      Always On Top:   Toggles whether the ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus
  54.           Button always appears above all other windows.  If
  55.           this item is checked, the ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus
  56.           Button will appear above all other windows.

  61.      Windows Utilities:   Allows you to restart your Windows
  62.           session, to exit Windows and return to DOS, or to
  63.           exit Windows and reboot your computer.  [See "Why
  64.           ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus" below for some reasons for
  65.           doing this.]
  66.      Exit:     Removes the Button from the screen, and
  67.           restores the most recent permanent screen saver
  68.           settings.

  72.      ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus will have no effect with screen
  73.   savers not installed into Windows Control Panel /
  74.   Desktop.
  75.      No screen saver will activate if ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus
  76.   enables screen saving but Windows' Control Panel has no
  77.   screen saver specified (i.e., Screen Saver Name =
  78.   "(None)".)

  86. Why ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus?
  87.  
  88.      Sometimes you want your screen saver enabled, sometimes
  89.   you don't.  Some programs (including certain tape backup
  90.   applications) may not run correctly if the screen saver
  91.   activates.  The unobtrusive ScrnSaveSwitch/Plus Button
  92.   allows you to switch back and forth with a minimum of
  93.   trouble.
  94.      I like my screen saver to have a short delay and
  95.   password protection for security.  Not, however, while
  96.   I'm working.  I wanted a simple button to enable/disable
  97.   the screen saver rather than to have to go into Control
  98.   Panel/Desktop.
  99.      The "Windows Utilities" (Restart Windows, Exit Windows,
  100.   Reboot machine) are helpful because many programs never
  101.   release the resources they acquire and the only way to
  102.   make those resources available again is to quit Windows
  103.   and then restart it.  Sometimes a whole reboot is
  104.   required to restore a system to "normal"!  These methods
  105.   make that reinitialization safe, simple, fast and
  106.   keyboard-free.  (By the way, they also let you bypass the
  107.   "This will end your Windows session" OK/Cancel query.)
